Mikser in Khurvaleti: South Ossetia and Abkhazia integral parts of Georgia

On 24 April Foreign Minister Sven Mikser visited the administrative boundary line of Georgia's breakaway region of South Ossetia near the village Khurvaleti and reaffirmed support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “South Ossetia and Abkhazia are integral parts of Georgia,” emphasised Mikser.

Mikser stressed that it is important to find a peaceful solution to the conflict and to achieve this, the Geneva International Discussions must continue. “Unlawful Russian activity in the occupied territories damages the efforts to find a peaceful solution and therefore threatens regional security and stability,” Mikser said. He also considers it important to maintain the attention of the international community on the occupied territories of Georgia.

Mikser expressed concern over the impact of Russian activities on the human rights and the humanitarian situation in the occupied territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The Foreign Minister emphasised the importance of the contribution of the only international monitoring mission, the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, to the security and the containment of tensions in Georgia.
